HORA, Anita Grace, age 99, of Lanier Township, Preble County, OH, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, surrounded by loving family at Fort Hamilton Hospital, OH. She was born on February 14, 1925, in Carlisle, OH, to the late Joseph Grandon and Virgie Evelyn (Cass) Burdge.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James “Jimmy” W. Hora, brother Donald E. Burdge, granddaughters Jessica N. Hora, Lisa K. (Hora) Alticand daughter-in-law Susan J. (Royer) Hora.
A faithful born-again Christian, Anita’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith, which guided her every action and inspired all who knew her. She was a devoted wife to her beloved, “Jimmy” for 71 years. Together, they built a beautiful farm life centered on family and hard work, raising hogs and growing strawberries, tobacco, row crops and farm produce.
A 1944 graduate of Germantown High School, OH, she worked in Dayton contributing to the WWII effort, and went on as anAmerican Cancer Society volunteer, a Preble County 4-H Cooking Club Advisor and a proud DAR member. Anita cherished her winters in the Florida Keys alongside her husband, where they enjoyed fishing and warmth during their retirement years. Anita was known for sharing her love of plants, birds, and singing church hymns while playing her piano.
She is survived by 8 children: Bonnie (Tim) Schmidt of Middletown, OH; Bill (Cindy) Hora of Sebring, FL; Bob Hora of Lewisburg, OH; Beverly (Joe) Babis of Prosper, TX; Judy (Eric) Boshuizen of Broken Arrow, OK; Janie (Rick) Albrecht of Kettering, OH; Flora (Mike) Rectenwald of Tipp City, OH; and Frankie (Mary) Hora of West Alexandria, OH. Her legacy continues through 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 brothers and 1 sister: Dale (Melva) Burdge of Jasper, GA; Darrell (Eula)Burdge of West Manchester, OH; Marilyn (Burdge) Bedsworthof Cornelia, GA; and 1 sister-in-law Nathalia (Ryan) Burdge of Ft. Myers, FL.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am at the Gard Funeral Home (formerly Lindloff-Zimmerman), 67 West Dayton Street, West Alexandria, OH. Burial will follow at Germantown Union Cemetery, 11179 St. Rt. 725 W., Germantown, OH.
