Betty J. Sowder

Betty J. Sowder, age 91, of Eaton, OH passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Vancrest of Eaton Health Care Center.  She was born February 5, 1930 in Dayton, OH to the late Lester and Gladys (Reason) Land.   Betty formerly worked at NCR, Dayton VA Medical Center, former City of Eaton Director of Finance; and Register Herald Newspaper in Eaton.  She was a member of the Abundant Heart in Christ Church in Eaton and Eaton United Methodist Church, where she was very active.  Betty loved the Lord and her family, never had an unkind word for anyone, never turned away anyone in need.  Her and Woody were also farmers raising crops and livestock, and raising horses that they dearly loved.  She had many friends and touched many lives, and had a wonderful sense of humor.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold W. “Woody” Sowder in 2009; and son Pastor L. Ray Sowder in 2020.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law Candy Sowder of Eaton, OH; grandchildren Kelly Satterfield of Florida, Joseph (Beth) Sowder of Kettering, OH, Steven (Shannin) Sowder of Eaton, OH, Brian (Amy) Sowder of Eaton, OH and Lacey (Carsten) Dempwolff of Hanover, Germany; great grandchildren Kayna, Tyler, Blayze, Matthew, Elizabeth, Dallas, Brian Jr., Zachary, Autumn, Dakota, James, Hunter and Faith; 11 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:30 am at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Pastor John Richards officiating.
