Carl Eugene “Gene” Henning was born April 21, 1936, in a farmhouse outside of Liberty, Indiana and died peacefully at home on March 2, 2022. At a young age his family moved to the Henning family farm in Dixon Township. Gene graduated Dixon-Israel High School in 1954 and served in the US Army. He married Nora Goodman on September 23, 1967 and was a third-generation farmer of the family land until retirement when he entrusted the farm to his son, Michael. Gene and Nora raised 4 loving children, Linda, Deborah (predeceased), Michael, and Heather and enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Gene served many years as a Dixon Township Trustee, was a member of the Sugar Valley United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer for many years. He volunteered for the Pork Festival and was active in helping his children and grandchildren with their 4-H projects. Gene was an avid toy tractor collector enjoying many toy shows and events throughout his life. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nora Henning, his son Michael (Becky) Henning, his daughters Linda (Gary) Garland and Heather (Jason) Nafziger, his grandsons Zachary (Sara) Henning and Nathan Henning, his granddaughters Emily Garland and Mikayla Henning, his great-granddaughter Landree Henning, his brothers Glen (Joyce) Henning and Roger (Michele) Henning and numerous nephews and nieces and other family members. He is predeceased by his parents Stanley and Esther Henning, his brother Gerald and his daughter Deborah. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Sugar Valley Methodist Church 3022 Camden Sugar Valley Road, Eaton, OH 45320 with Pastor Gerald Sadai officiating. Friends and family will be received from 1:00 pm until time of service at 2:00 pm. Gard Funeral Home, Eaton is assisting the family with arrangements.
