Dale E. Pence, age 86, of West Manchester, OH passed away on Thursday, November 08, 2012 at the Vancrest Health Care Center, Eaton, OH. He was born July 19, 1926 in Eaton, OH to the late Raymond and Flora (Kirkhoff) Pence. He was a U.S. Army Veteran whose served in WWII; was an American Legion Third District Commander for two different terms; was founder of the Preble County Honor Guard; was a member of the American Legion, Eaton, OH; was a member of AMVETS Post #726, Eldorado, OH; was a member of the V.F.W. Post #4161, Arcanum, OH; and was a member of the West Manchester United Methodist Church. Dale was a longtime Preble County farmer; he also worked for the village of West Manchester as a civil worker; and lastly worked at the Preble County Fairgrounds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Julia M. Pence, and his second wife Judith C. Pence; and sister Esther Cornwell. He is survived by his sons Dennis (Mary) Pence of Bloomington, IN and Ernie (Barbara) Pence, West Manchester, OH; stepsons Chris (Renea) Smith of Eaton, OH and Michael Smith of Indianapolis, IN; 9 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren; sister Jean Bailey of Eaton, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 1:00 pm until time of funeral services at 4:00 pm at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Pastor Terry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
