Douglas D. Thompson, age 78, of West Manchester, OH passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025 at EverHeart Hospice at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, OH. He was born March 24, 1946 in Richmond, IN to the late Nick and Edna Mae Thompson. Doug was raised in West Manchester, went to school in the old, one room schoolhouse on the corner of Main and W. North Streets for kindergarten and first grade. He then attended Monroe School, graduating in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1966 as a medic. In December of 1966 on Christmas Eve, he married Candy Jenkins. They lived in Eldorado for 25 years, raising their daughter, Kelly Lynn (Thompson) Brinley, and their son Kurt Matthew Thompson. He worked at Chrysler Air-Temp in Dayton for a few years, then began working for Triasco Paving Company in Middletown. During these years he refereed basketball for 25 years. In the nineties Triasco was bought out and he worked at Barrett Paving out of Dayton until retirement in 2013. He and Candy then moved to their home in West Manchester, the home that his father built. The home was added on to, and became a gathering place for family. Especially, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was a West Manchester Council Member for many years. He loved working in his garden, and flower beds. He also raised popcorn, just as his dad did. With all the grandkids, he seemed to always be going to ballgames, dance reviews, or whatever. His grandkids were his life, he loved each one so very much! He was a “toy for them”. His life was filled with happiness and sadness. He became ill a couple of years ago, life became more stressful. He was a trooper, hanging in there right up to his passing. A great guy with a huge heart, for everyone. He will be missed by all. We love you Doug, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother and a friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Larry; and infant triplet grandchildren Aaron, Beau and Cole. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Candy Thompson; son Kurt (Kendra) Thompson; daughter Kelly (Steve) Brinley; grandchildren Blake (Delaney), Mariah, Paige, Makena (Michael), Chase (Emily), Kaeden and Kenady; great grandchildren Ryelin, Grayson, Milah, Isla and Nash; sister Joy (Steve) Dearth; brother Dean (Georgie) Thompson; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dog Minnie Moo.
