Eugene Cornett

GRATIS, OH – Eugene “Gene” Cornett, age 66, of Gratis, OH passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 30, 2019.  He was born June 18, 1953 in Middletown, OH to the late Willie and Ellen (Taylor) Cornett.  He was a 1971 graduate of Valley View, retired from AK Steel in 2006 as a maintenance electrician. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and in general a hard worker. He enjoyed farming, gardening and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Florence Jones and two brothers, James Cornett and Jesse “Bud” Cornett. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jacki (Hawkins) Cornett of Gratis, OH; daughter Jenny (Jeff) Helvey of Sunbury, OH; son Bill (Brandi) Cornett of Gratis, OH; sister Pat (Ted) Youngen of Moraine, OH; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Levi, Hannah, Eli, Gaven and Eva; and numerous extended family and friends.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3rd, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lindloff~Zimmerman Funeral Home in Gratis, OH. A graveside service will be held the following day at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 4th, 2019 at Fairview Cemetery in Gratis, OH with Chaplain Tim Rech officiating. There will be a gathering of friends at the Gratis Eagles immediately after the burial.
