Helen V. Smith

Helen V. Smith, age 81, of West Manchester, OH, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born April 22, 1932 in Middletown, OH to the late Willis and Edith (Henderson) Emrick. Helen was a 1950 graduate of Monroe High School; was a member of the Preble County Pork Festival Board for 22 years, serving as Treasurer; and she retired as Head Bank Teller from First State Bank in West Manchester after 32 years of employment. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband H. Galen Smith, who passed away on October 4, 1994; sisters Kathleen Baker, Evelyn Cencebaugh, Maxine Baker, Shirley Geeding and Rosanna Owens; and brothers Lloyd, Gene, Robert, Donald and Rolland Emrick. She is survived by her daughter Pamela S. (James) Vaniman of Dayton, OH; son Michael W. Smith of West Manchester, OH; grandsons Michael G. (fiancé Julie) Smith of Eaton (Lakengren), OH and Joseph P. (Ashley) Smith of Trenton, OH; sisters Phyllis Swihart of Eldorado, OH and Norma Bishop of Richmond, IN; brother Richard Emrick of New Madison, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with George Brown officiating. Burial will be in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester, OH. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
