Janet E. Gates

Janet E. Gates, age 85, of Eldorado, OH, passed away quietly surrounded by her family on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Greebriar Nursing Center, Eaton, OH. She was born August 29, 1926 in Brookville, OH to the late Verne C. and Nellie V. (Weidel) Phillips. Janet was a 1944 graduate of Brookville High School and a 1947 graduate of Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing; was a former member of the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corp.; she was an office nurse for C.W. Thomas of Brookville, OH for many years, later retiring as a school nurse from the Brookville School System; she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross; was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi in Dayton, OH; and was a charter member of the Delta Theta Tau, Kappa Xi Chapter of Brookville, OH. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband John A. Gates, who passed away in October of 2000; and nephew Douglas Day. She is survived by her daughter Joanell (companion Dean Wigger) Phillips of Eldorado, OH; son Gary Lee (Marilyn) Gates of Eldorado, OH; grandsons Terry (companion Holli Besecker) Weaver of Arcanum, OH, Cody Lee Gates of Eldorado, OH, Jonathan Bradley Phillips of Eldorado, OH and Trevor Austin Gates of Eldorado, OH; great grandson Kurtis Lee Weaver; sister Joyce (Ed) Day of Union, OH; nieces Debbie Kopp of Tipp City, OH and Diane Kiser of Elon, NC; nephews Drew Day of Rock Hill, SC, James (Kathern) Long of Middletown, OH and Tom Long of Middletown, OH; and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Girton Schimdt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Pastor Valerie Browne officiating. Burial will be in Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester, OH. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
