Jean M. Simpson, age 82, of Richmond, IN and formerly of Centerville, OH passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond, IN.  She was born May 25, 1940 in Richmond, IN to the late Russell and Mary (Wright) Rutan.  Jean grew up on a farm in Preble County and was a member of Campbellstown United Church of Christ, which her grandfather helped build.  She graduated from Miami University and dearly loved working with children which led to a teaching career of 35 years, mostly 5th grade.  She volunteered for the Centerville Historical Society in Dayton, where she became the Educational Director.  She was a skilled quilter, making more than a dozen full size quilts, and numerous baby quilts for many newborns; was an expert square dancer and made all of her outfits; she enjoyed painting, mostly in water colors; loved the outdoors; enjoyed her flower gardens; and antiquing.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Amy Sue Felty.  She is survived by her husband George Simpson of Richmond; brother Ron Rutan of Eaton; and brother-in-law Dale Felty of Richmond, IN; and several nieces and nephews.  A private graveside service will be held at Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton, OH.  Gard Funeral Home, Eaton is assisting with arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be sent to The Michael J.
