John M. Cail, age 82 of Eaton, OH, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at his residence. He was born June 18, 1930 in Richmond, IN to the late John Roy and Hazel (Benham) Cail. John was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School, Campbellstown, OH; was a discharged at the rank of Staff Sargent from the U.S. Army where he served in England during the Korean War; was a member of the Eaton United Church of Christ, where he was co-chairman of the church food tent at the Preble County Fairgrounds for over 40 years; was an accomplished singer and soloist, who sang in numerous quartets and the church choir; he worked at NCR in Dayton for 21 years, worked a short time at Wilson Hardware in Eaton, and was a longtime Preble County farmer and seed corn salesman since 1975; he also had a dump truck and gravel hauling business; he served on the Preble County Zoning Board for 20 years; assisted with the Preble County Pork Festival since it began; and he enjoyed mushroom hunting, collecting antique tractors, playing cards and raising Norwegian Elk Hounds for many years. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters Frances Campbell, Carolyn Spahr, Ruth Ann Fisher; and brothers Myron Cail and William Cail. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris (Davis) Cail of Eaton; daughter Laurie Suzanne “Sue” (John) Ross of Eaton; son John Michael (Cathy) Cail, Sr. of New Paris; grandson John Michael Cail, Jr. of New Madison, who he raised; granddaughters Kara Ross of Eaton, Jenna (Jeremy Koontz) Ross of New Paris, Katie (Jeremy) Pierce of New Paris and Janet Cail of New Paris; great grandsons Brett and Alex Cail of New Paris; brother Norman (Carol) Cail of Longmont, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Rev. Jim Sizelove officiating. Burial will follow in Westville Cemetery, New Paris, OH.
