John E. Wagner

John E. Wagner, age 94, of Eaton, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born June 19, 1919 in Preble County to the late Joseph and Gertrude Wagner. John was a longtime Preble county farmer. In his early years he was a member of Wares Chapel United Methodist Church and later was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Eaton Church of the Brethren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lucille Catherine Wagner, who passed away in 1996; and sister Martha Hogg. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Ruth Wagner of Eaton; daughter Carol A. (Jerry) McRill of Eaton; son Gary J. Wagner of Indianapolis; grandson Justin J. (Kellie) Swartsell of Eaton; granddaughter Kristin A. (John) Swartsell-Pettitt of Eaton and their children A.J. and Emma; 2 step-grandsons Jeff and Justin McRill and their children; and sister Anna Kramer of Eaton. John also dearly loved the life he shared with Ruths family which included: children Barbara (Ralph) Buzbee and their two children, Sharon (James) Main and their four children, Renita (Mark) Ellington and their two children and Joel (Cynde) Guthrie and their three children; and 18 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 11:00 am until time of funeral services at 1:30 pm at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH. Burial will follow at Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton, OH. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Eaton Church of the Brethren, 813 Camden Rd., Eaton, OH 45320 or Wares Chapel United Methodist Church, 1060 Foos Rd., West Manchester, OH 45382.
