Margaret (Johnson) Flory, age 99, of Eaton, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020. She was born in Montgomery County June 1, 1921, daughter of Aja and Mae (Dafler) Johnson. She graduated from Dixie High School, New Lebanon, Ohio, in 1939 and attended Miami University in Oxford, OH. On October 3, 1942, Margaret married Robert Flory, son of Oakley and Iva (Via) Flory. Their marriage was blessed with three sons: David, Michael and Jeffrey. Margaret joined her husband in membership in the Eaton United Methodists Church on February 3, 1946, remaining a faithful member until her death. She taught Sunday School for 12 years, was Historian, served on a number of committees, and was a choir member for over 50 years. She was a member of Omicron Sigma Sorority for over 50 years. After her year in college, she worked 7 years for the State of Ohio at the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation/United States Employment Service office in Dayton, OH. This was during WWII when her husband was in the Navy in the Hospital Corps. She worked for 1 year at the Great Lakes Naval Training Academy in Chicago until the war ended. She resumed work back at the Dayton office until an office opened in Eaton for the convenience of veterans where she was branch manager. She stopped working to raise their three sons until the youngest son started in school. In 1986, she retired after 25 years as school secretary at Bruce and East Elementary Schools. After Oakley Flory’s death in 1986, she and her son, Michael, maintained the Oakley Flory Insurance Agency until it was sold in 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband in 1983, her oldest son, David in 2016, and her sister Wilma Lindsey in 2018. She is survived by her two sons, Michael and Jeffrey of Eaton, OH, nieces Susan Wallin of Clayton, OH, Melinda Wall of Camden, OH, nephews Scott (Myra) Lindsey of Knoxville, TN, Thomas (Melissa) Flory of Eaton, OH, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2020 at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH from 11:00 am until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Pastor John Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton United Methodist Church in her memory.
