Mary Lee Scearcy Bissett Michael, passed away on September 14, 2023 at the Springs in Richmond, Indiana. She was 96 years old, and proceeded in death by her first husband, Milton Bissett in 1989; second husband, Albert J. Michael in 2009; brother, Charles (Erma) Scearcy; and sister, Kay Hintermeister.
Mary was born at home in Springdale, Iowa to the late Cecil and Mildred Scearcy. They later moved to the small town of Ollie, Iowa, where she graduated High School in 1944 and then attended a Trade School in Omaha, NE. It was there Mary learned to type with Morse code due to the jobs needed to be filled by women during WWII. Mary worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH where she typed and sent out orders given by the high commanders. This was also the place where she met Milton Bissett and later married him in 1948. They resided in Dayton and then moved to Lakengren in Eaton, Ohio where Mary was active in the Garden Club, secretary of the Women’s club and other civic organizations. Mary enjoyed bowling, watching the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and attending Grandchildren’s sporting events. Mary loved her cats and enjoyed taking pictures to capture life’s moments, playing cards, playing music and gardening.
Mary is survived by daughter Vicki (Richard) King of Hilton Head, SC; son, Larry (Joan) Bissett of Morgantown, WV; step Daughter, Mindy (Gordon) McLaughlin. Mary was very proud of her Grandchildren, Cheryl (Jake) King, Nate (Michele) King, Trisha (Elliott) Tippett; Step Grandson, Brian McLaughlin; great grandchildren, Nico and Aliana; several nieces and nephews; family friend, George Dimitriou; caring neighbors, Debbie and John Kramer; and Special Niece Deborah Bellmer.
Private graveside services were held Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Mound Hill Cemetery. Gard Funeral Home, Eaton, Ohio assisted the family. Online condolences and other remembrances may be sent by visiting www.gardfuneralhome.com.
