Melvin E. Petry

Melvin E. Petry, age 85, of New Paris, OH, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Reid Hospital, Richmond, IN. He was born December 28, 1928 in Eldorado, OH to the late Ralph and Mary Petry. Melvin was a lifelong resident of New Paris and Preble County; he was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during WWII; was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Paris, OH; and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed flying as a private pilot. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Petry of New Paris, OH; son Dennis (Debbie) Petry of New Paris, OH; daughters Debbie (Dick) Davies of New Paris, OH and Beth (Jack) Miles of Fountain City, IN; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 4 siblings. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH. A private committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at Springlawn Cemetery, New Paris, OH. Memorial contributions may be sent to Northwest Rescue Squad, 135 N.
