Michael Paul Slater, 68 of 29 Johnston Lane, Sunbury, NC died Monday, March 5, 2018 at Elizabeth Health and Rehabilitation. He was born December 4, 1949 in Detroit, MI to Robert Edward Slater (Betty) of Dearborn, MI and the late Muriel Shellenburg Slater and was the husband of Cynthia Sue Brubaker Slater. He retired after thirty years from the U. S. Navy as an instructor for the Explosive Ordinance Division. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Senior Vice Officer two different times and then District Commander and Veterans Service Officer with the VFW. He is survived by his wife Sue Slater of the residence; a step-son, Steven Curtis Cox of Eaton, OH; three brothers, his twin, Charles âChuckâ Slater (Barbara) of Allen Park, MI, Robert âBobbyâ Slater, Jr. of New Orleans, LA, and Dennis Slater (Debbie) Flat Rock, MI.; two grandchildren, Steven Charles Eugene Cox and Jacqueline Dykes (Jon); and two great granddaughters, Kassandra Marie Dykes and Emma Cheyenne Dykes; his mother-in-law Norma Jean Brubaker, West Alexandria, OH. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Mary Slater. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 14,, 2018 at Lindloff Zimmerman Funeral Home in West Alexandria, OH. with Pastor Brody Rike officiating.
