Nina Woesner, age 94, died peacefully in her sleep, on April 2, 2015 at Grandview Hospital, from complications due to pneumonia. Nina was born on October 1, 1920 in Saroka, Rumania. She was the daughter of Vera and Ivan Gorbaniuk who preceded her in death. On January 14, 1940 she married her beloved husband Johann Woesner who preceded her in death on September 28, 1977. Johann and Nina left Rumania in 1940 during the Russian takeover of Rumania. In October on the way to Austria, Nina gave birth to her first child Erika Shroyer who lives in Dayton Ohio. In April 1942 Nina gave birth to her daughter Trudy Barney who lives in Eaton, Ohio. Trudy's husband Gary passed away three years ago. In March 1944 she bore her first son Hans (John) who resides in St. Marys, Ohio with his wife Ruth Ann and in July, 1945 she gave birth to her son Gary who lives in Eaton, Ohio with his wife Linda. In 1956 John, Nina and the children left Austria to immigrate to the United States. The Woesners were sponsored to immigrate to the U.S., by the Eaton Church of the Brethren. Nina was a lifelong member of the church and attended regularly until her health made it difficult to attend. Nina was a loving, generous grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She left behind 4 children who loved and cared for her dearly, 12 grandchildren: Cindy (Larry) McCartney, Patty (Barry) Gillis, James Shroyer, Chris (Rob) Salyers, Lisa Preston, Robert (Lisa) Barney, Alicia Fine, April (Neal) Braun, Aaron (Terri) Woesner, Brian Woesner, Clint (Holly) Woesner and Karah Woesner; 27 great-grand children, and 7 great-great grandchildren. Nina was a great cook and baker. She delighted in preparing huge dinners for her entire family sometimes serving two dinners at different times on the same day. It was only recently that her health prevented her from continuing this passion. No one could make better cabbage rolls than Nina Woesner. Few people in this world could make better cakes and pastries than Nina. Nina spoke several Slavic languages including Rumanian, Russian, Polish and Ukrainian. She also spoke German and English. She had a wonderful voice; unfortunately few people had the pleasure to hear her sing.
