Opal L. Turner

Opal L. (Eyler) Turner, age 99, of Eaton, OH and formerly of West Manchester, OH, passed away quietly March 21, 2013 at the Greenbriar Nursing Center, Eaton, OH. She was born May 28, 1913 in Preble County to the late Charles Monroe and Ada Catherine (Scheyhing) Eyler. Opal was a member of the West Manchester United Church of Christ; where she was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship. Opal was a 1934 graduate of Reid Memorial Nursing School; she changed the lives of many people through kindness and medical knowledge as a private duty registered nurse for 30 years before retiring in 1969. She was also a member of the Flora Garden Club in West Manchester; was an award winning artist; and enjoyed quilting. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband James Fremont Turner, who passed away October 8, 1985; brothers John Eyler, Stanley Eyler, and Roi Eyler; and sisters Mary Swihart, Olive Eyler, and Dorothy Seibel. She is survived by her son Michael (Nancy) Turner of Lincoln, NE; daughters Ann (Forest) Glidewell of Greenville, OH and Jane (Rey) Reeder of West Manchester, OH; 8 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 10:00 am until time of funeral services at 11:00 am at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Pastor David Ireton officiating. Burial will follow at Wares Chapel Cemetery, West Manchester, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Monroe Twp. Food Bank, 1060 Foos Road, West Manchester, OH 45382 or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
