Raymond E. Shepherd

Raymond E. Shepherd, age 89, of Eaton, OH passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Vancrest of Eaton Health Care Center. He was born February 28, 1935 in Dayton, OH to the late Sonny F. and Ruby E. (Ray) Shepherd. Raymond was a U.S. Army Veteran and member of the American Legion Post # 215 in Eaton; he retired as a meat inspector from the U.S. Department of Agriculture; he owned and trained horses for many years, competing in harness racing; and was a member of the Eagles Lodge # 4289, Gratis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Freda McLain; and brothers Robert Shepherd and Don Shepherd. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Rhoda Shepherd; daughters Vicki (John) Parks of Eaton and Sheila (Aaron) Elstro of Independence, KY; grandchildren Sarah Broome, Elizabeth Melton, Kyle Elstro, Taylor Elstro and Alyssa Elstro; great grandchildren Alice and Wasquinae; brother Jim (Marilyn) Shepherd; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 1:00 pm until time of funeral service at 3:00 pm at the Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 226 W. Main St, Eaton, OH with Pastor Gerald Sadai officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Hill Cemetery in Eaton. Memorial contributions may be sent to any Veterans organization of donor’s choice.
