Richard D. Green, 69, of Eaton, Ohio passed away July 19 surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born March 12, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio to Clair and Virginia Schaff Green. He graduated from Chaminade High School, Dayton, in 1963. Dick attended the University of Dayton and graduated from the Ohio Police Academy, embarking on a 25-year law enforcement career at Kettering Police Department. He continued his connection with the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy and Ohio Crime Prevention Association as an instructor for many years. An avid community volunteer, Dick served as member of several community boards and task forces. A dedicated family man, he coached a soccer team, attended volleyball tournaments, baseball games, and chess tournaments. He was an avid gardener and supporter of animal rescue. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Katie Kelly-Green; sons, Steve Green (Sheri), West Carrollton, and Michael Green, Eaton; daughters Clair Green (John Schwartz), Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Sue Carnal (Kerry Austin), Alexandria, Va., Missy Tate, Centerville, and Chris Green, Miamisburg; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 26 at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home in Eaton, Ohio. The family will be receiving friends from 1-3 p.m. with the memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of Preble County, PO.
