WILSON, Russell, age 90, of Gratis, OH. died Sat. Sept. 22, 2012 in Middletown, OH. He was born Aug. 5, 1922 in Wolfe County, KY. to William and Mary (Haynes) Wilson. He was a WWII and Korean War Navy veteran. He retired from ARMCO Steel in 1985. Mr. Wilson was a member of Gratis United Methodist Church and many organizations, including, VFW #3804 of Middletown, Gratis Eden Oddfellows #147, Charter member of Gratis Lions Club and Gratis Eagles #4289, Middletown American Legion Post #218, former board member of Preble County Historical Society. He was a former Gratis Councilman and Mayor for 30+years and member of Preble County Mayors Assoc. He was influential in helping start the Gratis Rescue Squad. Mr. Wilson is survived by his son, Rev. David (Linda) Wilson, Arcanum, OH. daughter, Cathy (Dennis) Lohrey, Gratis, OH., 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sister, Alma Rinehart, Middletown, OH. nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Emma Wilson, 5 brothers, Al Wilson, Herb Wilson, Glenn Wilson, Chet Wilson, Leonard Wilson and sister, Alta Begley. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Thurs. Sept. 27, 2012 at Gratis United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Wood officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, OH.
