Ruth P. Meyer, 72, of Eaton, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Vancrest Healthcare Center in Eaton, Ohio. She was born on September 9, 1952, in Hamilton, OH, to the late Paul and Vera Proeschel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Keith Meyer, who passed away in 2019 and brother John Proeschel, who passed away in 2022.
Ruth graduated from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, and began her career with Abott Laboratories, Chicago, Illinois, in the quality research and development division, where she oversaw start-up plant operations nationally and in Puerto Rico, until she left to pursue other interests.
Ruth’s life work was grounded in her growing up on a family dairy farm in Camden, Ohio, and working in the dairy industry throughout her life. She was a manager of a large dairy operation in Boulder, Colorado, and later developed and operated a consulting company, for which she wrote two books about the dairy industry.
Ruth loved serving her church and communities. She was a member of Ligonier United Methodist Church, Ligonier, IN and Grace Lutheran Church, Eaton, Ohio. She received numerous awards for excellence in leadership and service, impacting the lives of many. In retirement, Ruth and her husband Keith pursued their favorite hobby collecting antiques, purchasing and selling rare and unique objects.
Ruth is survived by sisters Paula Murray of Eaton, OH, Linda (Arnie) Johnson of Eaton, OH, sister-in-law Diane Proeschel of Camden, OH, and brothers Jim (Paula) Proeschel of Camden, OH, Joe (Peggy) Proeschel of Liberty, IN, Andrew (Susan) Proeschel of Eaton, OH and Charlie Simms of Oak Grove, KY, several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 10:30 am until time of funeral service at 11:30 am all at Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Lutheran Drive, Eaton, OH with Pastor Dwight Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Gratis, Ohio. Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Eaton, Ohio is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
