Suzanne Nadine Webb Dorsey-Cramer, age 88, of West Alexandria, OH, passed away on Monday, August 12th, 2024 at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 13th, 1935 in Richmond, IN to the late Howard and Clova (Mings) Webb. Suzanne was a lifelong educator, having earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton and her Master’s degree in education from Miami University. She taught at Verona, Twin Valley South, and Tri-County North school districts for a combined 27 years as a primary teacher, and in the Title 1 Reading Program. She had a fierce passion for the importance of literacy education, and spent her life creating, improving and broadening the spectrum of teaching materials for literacy education. She finished her career serving as principal at Tri-County North for 10 years. She continued her love of education during her retirement/snowbird years in Florida, where she served as a beloved Substitute Teacher in the Port Charlotte school district, as well as a court-appointed guardian ad litem in support of child-welfare. Sue was an active member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Women’s Dorcas Circle and the Junior Lutherans midweek youth program. It was here that she taught youth to spread the Word of God through a puppet ministry she created. Sue had many hobbies including reading, crafting with her family, birdwatching, and traveling. She was a worldwide traveler as a member of The Friendship Force of Dayton/International, a global, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting intercultural understanding, citizen diplomacy and world peace. She served many years on their board of directors. Sue was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the West Alexandria Coterie Club, where she enjoyed sisterhood and fellowship while giving back to the communities at large. In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband James R. Dorsey in 1987; husband Ward Cramer in 2006; and brother Wendell Mings Webb in 1998. She is survived by her son Jeff Shafer of Eaton, OH; nephew Alan Webb of West Alexandria, OH; nieces Wendy Chesney of West Alexandria, and Jill (Dan) Webb Hake of Waynesville, OH; sister-in-law Shirley Eby Webb of West Alexandria, OH; as well as several grandchildren, Brad (Christina), Zach and Kelsie Shafer; great-grandchildren, Kinley and Avery Shafer; grand nephews, Wendell and Brenden Webb; and grand-nieces, Audrey, Liberty and Kira Chesney. A two hour visitation will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm, at Salem Lutheran Church, 70 E. Dayton St, West Alexandria, OH 45381 with Pastor Dan Mershon officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in West Alexandria, with food and fellowship being shared back at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Dayton; a scholarship fund in Suzanne’s name will be set up at a later date to continue her love and legacy of education.
