William "Bill" Hakes, age 90 of Eaton, OH, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, to be reunited with the Lord. Born on December 9, 1932, in Dayton, OH, Bill was the beloved son of the late Arthur and Mildred Hakes. A man of deep love and compassion, Bill was cherished as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His life was marked by honorable service as a United States Air Force Veteran, proudly defending his country. Bill found joy in simple pleasures, including fishing, puzzles, smoking his pipe, fixing things, and spending quality time with his cherished family.  After retiring from a successful career in the printing business, Bill embarked on a second career at Walmart, where he dedicated himself for the past 20 years. In his final years there, he served as a greeter, earning the reputation of "holding court" and spreading infectious smiles to all who entered the store. Bill's warmth and genuine care touched the hearts of countless individuals, making a lasting impact on their lives. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Pieratt. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Lou Hakes, and his children, Andy, Randy, Lora, Joe, and their respective spouses. Bill leaves behind a legacy of love that extends to several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends who held him dear. The Gard Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Eaton are providing assistance to the family during this difficult time.
