William “Bill” Mills, 87, of Gordon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. Bill spent his final days surrounded by his children, grandchildren, nephew Jeff (Chris) Rehmert, nurse and friend Mary Pool, friends, and neighbors. Bill was born on January 17, 1937, in Trotwood, OH to the late Omer and Dorthy Mills. He and his late sister Pauline Ortman grew up on a farm in the Trotwood area where he spent much of his early life with his Uncle Ambrose and working on the farm. He was mischievous, and often told stories of shenanigans from his childhood and adolescence. Bill first met his beloved wife Dolores “Jean” when they were children, and they began dating as teenagers. They were married in 1957 and have spent the last 67 years together as husband and wife. In the last months of his life, Bill proudly shared the story about Jean’s and his first kiss as teenagers to anyone who would listen. Bill went on to work and retire from Dayton Power & Light. He was an honorary life-member of the Utility Workers Union of America, Local 175. Bill was an animal lover, owning many cats, dogs, and other furry friends throughout his life. He was loved by the neighborhood strays, many of whom would only let Bill pet them. He had a special love of raccoons. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing, and he shared many of these moments with his family and friends. Bill was a great story teller. If you met Bill, then you have probably heard stories about his childhood, time with his Uncle Ambrose, utility work that he was proud of, and special moments with his family and friends. Bill is survived by his wife Dolores “Jean” Mills; his children Ted (Theresa) Mills of Hurst, TX, Larry (Terri) Mills of Arlington, WA, Kevin Mills of Gordon, Bonnie (Stewart) Hall of Middletown, and Diane (Kevin) Howard of Gordon; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. Gard Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Alexandria is assisting the family with arrangements.
